Local information, events and attractions

Diggle House Farm is well placed to access all the local attractions.

Saddleworth is rich in culture and heritage and there are many things to do: walking, cycling or horse riding over the hills, boating activities at Dovestones, exploring the Roman ruins at Castleshaw or taking a ride on a canal boat through the longest, highest and deepest canal tunnel in Britain. (Over three miles!)

Diggle itself has the entrance to the Stanndege tunnel, (one end of it anyway!), and through the summer trips can be taken through it, starting from the Standege Visitors Centre in Marsden.

Just a short walk down the towpath is Grandpa Greene's Ice Cream parlour and Cafe, serving delicious home made ice creams, snacks and drinks. Sit, relax and watch the world go by, and maybe chat to the folk passing on a narrow boat as they navigate the lock.  Diggle Lock is also an excellent cafe serving delicious coffee (Darkwood) and great food using local ingredients.

Diggle also has two good pubs, both of which serve food, and the Diggle Chippy - serving great food and housed in a quirky, listed building. There is also Diggle Band Club, home of two Brass Bands, and the venue for a number of music events throughout the year.

Diggle hosts one of the Whit Friday Brass Band contests and also has an annual Blues Festival, so if music is your passion, a visit when these are taking place will really get your foot tapping!

On the farm itself are Saddleworth Stables and Choosey Cats Cattery. The Stables are a Livery Yard with about 14 horses and you will see and hear horses around the farm. Choosey Cats houses approximately the same number of cats - but they are in snug cat houses and you won't see them (there are a number of farm cats around though!)

Diggle House Farm is a great location if you simply want to get away from the hustle and stress of daily life. A mile out of the village, there are walks from the farm gate in various directions, or you could simply sit outside your beautiful cottage and soak up the country air.

There are many places to go for a day out; Spend time around Saddleworth - eat in one of the many local bistros or coffee shops, browse in the local art galleries or gift shops, or visit one of the local craft shops. You could sample locally brewed beers in one of the many local pubs. You could even go llama trekking!

Other places are very easy to get to for a day: Holmfirth (Last of the Summer Wine), Marsden (Where the Heart Is), Slaithwaite, Hebden Bridge, Haworth and Bradford's famous Saltaire Heritage site (home to a massive David Hockney collection) are all within easy reach.

If you can't resist having a shopping spree, how about going to Manchester's famous Trafford Centre or the Arndale? Or hopping over to Leeds with it's Victoria Quarter?

There are Indoor Snow Centres, Mountain Biking, theatres, heritage centres, museums, music venues; all within easy reach!
